Seller's Description
The mark on this Noritake "M" in light green lettering reads, "NORITAKE M Handpainted Made in Japan." Each piece is trimmed in peach lusterware. *Note: I did not find an exact pattern like this one, similar, but not a match. This pattern has a single flower with green leaves "framed" in blue and yellow. The cup is translucent when held up to the light. The saucer is not and is heavier in weight. (I am not sure if the material is china or porcelain or both.)
Color: Multi-color.
Research Information: Al review summary says, "Noritake Lusterware floral teacup, vintage, likely from the mid-20th century, made of china, hand-painted, Noritake is a Japanese company known for producing high-quality tableware, produced in Japan due to abundance of raw materials and skilled potters, and backstamp can determine the age of the product. I also found this info: The "M in a wreath" mark on Noritake porcelain was used approximately between 1914 and 1940.
More interesting (experimental) Al generated information: After WWI, most back stamps changed to "Japan" or "Made in Japan." Items marked "Occupied in Japan" were made during the Allied occupation of Japan from 1945 to 1952. Between 1921 and 1941, pieces intended for the U.S. export market were marked "Japan" or "Made in Japan." This article led to another. Overall, the history is fascinating and makes this cup and saucer all the more special for a collector.
Style: Flat cup.
Approximate Measurements: Cup Diameter : 3 3/4 inches & w/Handle 4 1/2 inches; Cup Height: 2 inches; Saucer Diameter: 5 1/2 inches
Condition: Used, in excellent condition. No chips, cracks or crazing. *Hand-painted, there are variations in the color of the peach lustre trim around the cup.
