You are buying a Very Rare Just Andersen Tie Clip that could also be used as a money clip. The design number appears to be 508, but is difficult to read.

 

Just Andersen, Copenhagen, Denmark (1912-1948)

 

Just Andersen was a Danish decorative sculptor and worked with gold, silver, bronze, tin, disko metal, and silver plate. Disko metal is his own invention. The alloy is suitable for a partial hardware manufacturing (they were completed as crafts), as it was much cheaper to produce than bronze. It was the precondition for it to be purchased by people with regular income. It was a great success and created the basis for the development of the company. Also tin products (they were completed as crafts) were sold in large quantities. Just Andersen tin is characterized by lead being pulled out of the alloy making it bright and shiny after polishing. The bronze is now very much in demand, light bronze as well as the big heavy vases, which stand as icons of metal art of the period. During World War II he produced sculptures in Sandstone because of shortage of metal. They have become a collector's item as well.

 

Born on July 13, 1884 in Godhavn, Greenland, Andersen studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen before attending the School of Danish Crafts under Jens Møller-Jensen in 1912.

 

Upon finishing school, he designed works for silversmiths Georg Jensen and Mogens Ballin, they were also his friends, and in 1918 opened his own silversmith company, Just Andersen Pewter. The Copenhagen-based studio grew steadily and ended up having offices in Berlin, Brussels, London, Los Angeles and New York. In 1929 Just Andersen initiated an artistic and economic cooperation with the GAB, Jewellers Aktiebolaget in Stockholm

 

The company produced many sculptures. The creations of Just Andersen are very distinctive and characterized by the experience of his early childhood in Greenland. Strange fish and marine life in harmony with children–like beings. Also mermaids were a favorite theme. The idiom of Just Andersen is pure art deco and neo classicism

 

He was greatly inspired by ancient archaic art, and wanted to give it a Nordic touch with more rounded shapes. Archaic idiom embossed crafts of Greece from about 500 years B.C.

 

It is characterized by reproducing naturalistic figures with simplified stylized anatomical details. The Greek art was inspired by the Egyptian, and Just Andersen spent a great deal of time at The British Museum, where he made sketches of the Egyptian archaeological finds.

 

Andersen died on December 11, 1943 in Glostrup, Denmark.

 

His works are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the National Museum in Stockholm, among others.

 

 

Needs a clean, been in storage for years !

 

Patina from age, oxidisation in its latter stages of blue hues. Can be cleaned, but it is nice to see that these have not beem cleaned

A UK based successful bidder has only 4 clear days from the day after the auction closes, to have funds deposited with me, a buyer from abroad also has only 4 clear days. Any failure to supply funds by the specified time will result in an automated complaint to being an automated process and is beyond my control

 

I will only accept bids from the residents of the following countries and I will only post to the residents of these countries and sometimes a limit within this list depending upon the item

I am always concerned that any buyer is entirely happy with a purchase arising from my ‘Description’. However, your bidding price should reflect your expectations given by my ‘Conditions’. The classification of 'new' or 'used' or 'for parts' is entirely overridden by the 'Description' and the 'Photographs'. When sold as ‘Working’ the meaning of ‘Working’ is that the goods will only conform to the auction ‘Description’ of the function of goods and will not be warranted to conform to the original specification in any way. If described as ‘Working’ this means the goods were tested or examined in some imprecise way some months before sale and they were ‘Working’ then and put into storage. There is no implication that they will work in any way that meets your expectations upon delivery that have not been advised to me before your bidding or buying except as arising from the implication of the previous test or examination. ‘Working’ when applied to mains supplied equipment specifically means that they were tested on a temporary basis by a trained electronics technician. You must have the item tested and if necessary rewired by a person qualified to do so before plugging anything into the mains regardless of your perceived abilities. ‘Untested’ means that no power has been applied or any other means of testing has taken place, however there may be a part physical examination of the goods which forms part of the description. Electrical and electronic goods are sold for restoration and display purposes only. I reserve the right to remove any bidders, who do not meet any of my auction conditions, or who have negative feedback and I reserve the right to block bidders for any reason and advise others that I have done so and why. Where items are supplied as wrapped, or new, and are then opened, or used, or altered in any way by the buyer, there will be no refunds under any circumstances.
