Seller's Description
An original 'One of a Kind' watercolor painting by Frans van Baars. Bought at his gallery by my parents in 1999 when it was located in Washington, NC. Enclosed in its original rustic wood frame. Title of the watercolor is "Lightship'. This is not a print. Only one of these was produced.
The watercolor shows an anchored lightship along the seacoast. The red hulled lightship has a lighthouse structure mounted on top of it. It is flying an American flag. A schooner is sailing to the channel entrance in the background. Lightships were used as navigational aids until more modern navigation such as Loran-C and GPS were invented. Most lighthouses today are automated.
Signed by Frans van Baars in the lower right hand corner. Dated 1993. Framed by RLB at van Baars Gallery on 10/27/93.
Matted in an acid-free enviroment. Displayed and stored out of sunlight. There is no fading. The picture is distorted somewhat by reflections by the glass.
The watercolor measures approximately 9 inches wide x 6 inches tall. The frame measures approximately 15.25 inches wide x 12.25 inches tall.
The matting does have a small area of water damage. It is located in the bottom lower left hand corner next to the frame. The watercolor is untouched. The matting shows some rippling about 2 inches long by 0.5 inch tall.
Overall, in very good condition but I am not an art expert.
