Seller's Description

On DVD or VHS:

Japanese stallion DANCING BRAVE, the best horse of 1986 and arguably one of the best horses to race on European soil in the last quarter-century, died of a heart attack on August 2, 1999, at the Japan Blood-horse Breeders Association Shizunai Stallion Station on the island of Hokkaido; he was 16-years-old. This moving documentary tells the story of the Kentucky-bred grandson of NORTHERN DANCER (By LYPHARD out of NAVAJO PRINCESS, by DRONE), DANCING BRAVE, who raced for Khalid Abdulla's Juddmonte Farm in England.

He was unbeaten in two minor starts at two against ordinary competition and was a dominant runner at three in 1986, when he won the Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-G1), King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Eng-G1), and the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe (FR - GP 1).

See exclusive footage of the following races: 1985: Dorking Stakes and Soham House Stakes; 1986: Craven Stakes, Two Thousand Guineas, Epsom Derby (losing by a neck to SHARASTANI), Eclipse Stakes (beating the high-class mare TRIPTYCH), King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, Scottish Equitable Select Stakes (putting away BERING - the French Derby winner), and the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe.

DANCING BRAVE was Champion Three-Year-Old and Horse-of-the-Year in England and France in 1986 and was England's champion miler. Unfortunately he could not finish his career on a winning note, finishing fourth in the 1986 Breeders Cup Turf at Santa Anita Park in California.

He was syndicated for $14 million to Dalham Hall Stud, Newmarket. In 1993 he produced the Epsom Derby winner COMMANDER IN CHIEF, Italian Derby winner WHITE MUZZLE, Irish Oaks winner WEMYSS BIGHT. Earlier in 1991 he had been purchased by Japan Breeders Association and was moved to the Stud at Shizunai, Hokkaido, Japan.

All his races are shown in this documentary except for the final race, the 1986 Breeders' Cup Turf. In all, DANCING BRAVE won 8-of-10 career starts. He was a horse of tremendous versatility and had absolutely astonishing acceleration; he won at a mile, 1-1/4 miles, and 1-1/2 miles and usually came from way behind the pack - and would sprint the last 1-2 furlongs to the lead in faster times than most sprinters are capable of which lead to many thrilling finishes that excited race-goers everywhere - he beat the best! To produce devastating speed of this order after already running 1-1/2 miles is remarkable!

One clue to this achievement was his determined will to win - a vital part in the make-up of any champion and also his temperament; visitors always noticed how friendly he was for a world-class racehorse. An amiable fellow, he loved all the attention the public poured to him - he was as pleased to see them as they were of him! He was the epitome of the highest class of horse and upon his retirement, he was one of the most highly sought after sire prospects - breeders hoping to pass on his remarkable attributes to future sons and daughters.

A fitting tribute to a most beloved, courageous and deserving athlete who battled for his life on two separate occasions fighting a rare and often fatal disease known as ""Marie's Disease"" only to survive and to then succumb to a heart attack. Celebrate the memory of DANCING BRAVE - he will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!
