Seller's Description

B & R DVD Volume 16 - Modern Traction Memories

I quote from the box:
This sixth volume from the Colin White Collection of films, taken on BR from 1962 to the present day, covers diesel traction in the sixties and seventies. Included are 14 different classes of traction and several locomotives seen in BR service and now in preservation.

Section 1:- Diesel hydraulic power reigned on the Western Region from 1958 to 1977 and Westerns', 'Hymeks', and 'Warships' are included at work and on railtours. Five preserved 'Westerns' are shown when in use on BR. The double-headed 'Hymek Swansong' railtour is featured. Warships on the Southern end the story.

Section 2:- The Blue Pullman sets are seen at work on the Western Region in both blue and cream liveries.

Section 3:- BR Class 50 'Hoovers' at work on the Midland Region including the double-headed 'Royal-Scot' working in 1973.

Section 4:- The unique 'Kestrel' diesel is seen briefly at the Cricklewood open day in 1969.

Section 5:- Electric traction is featured by the 'Brighton Belle' units at Clapham Junction and Victoria in 1969.

Section 6:- The Weymouth Tramway working was unique on BR with an express winding its way through the streets of the town. Class 33 & 12 haulage are featured on this 1968 film.

Section 7:- The Deities have their own place in the story of the East Coast Main Line. Locations include Kings Cross, Peterborough, Harlow and Wandsworth.

Section 8:- Class 31's at work in green and blue livery on a variety of duties including a Royal Train working at Cambridge. Nassington, Harlow and Knebworth are featured.

Section 9:- Class 40 locomotives at work at Bereham, Kings Cross and Manchester Victoria when they hauled stock to Rainhill in 1980. D200 restored to green livery is seen at Whitchurch on a Cardiff to Manchester

Section 10:- Memories of 'Peak' haulage on the Midland Main Line are relived.

Section 11:- Brush Class 47 locomotives in a unique form which started the new era of colourful liveries, is featured by 47 164 at Chelmsford in 1977 with the large Union Jack on its sides. We end this look of the more unusual workings of this age with green liveried 47s on the ECML.’
