Seller's Description

ORIGINAL HORROR / SCI-FI / FANTASY MOVIE MEMORABILIA

The best site for rare, authentic horror movie memorabilia, including Universal, Hammer Horror, Amicus etc. original UK Quads, pressbooks, Front of House cards, autographs sold from my vast personal collection - now downsizing.

Bargain Horrors (nothing over £20.00)

All pieces offered are genuine release (usually 1st), old, cinema movie items and so had a 'life' before sale, so unlikely ever to be mint.

NOTE ON UK QUAD POSTERS: The UK Quad measures 30 x 40” and is ‘landscape’ format (wider rather than longer) so is excellent for images and scenes. US 1 sheets are ‘portrait’ (so longer than wide) and limited more to figure and face images than scenes. The older Quads from around 1970, or earlier, would generally tend to use artists to create an image and perhaps especially for cheaper horror movies the artist’s imagination could produce wonderful images that the actual movie had a hard time to live up to; however horror, science fiction and fantasy tend to be the most collected posters because of the artwork and they also tend to command the highest prices (hence the recent case of fake US horror 1 sheets for top horror titles). Many posters from the 1960s and earlier are scarce to rare as they were usually disposed of when the film had been shown and were never intended to be collected; they were often printed on poorer paper as they were seen essentially as disposable pieces pasted over, or thrown away when the movie had had its initial run. There is an impression that many earlier horror Quads have survived as some pieces will appear on internet sites, but a close inspection of who sells the best pieces will show that there are only a very few collectors / dealers who actually have scare, or rare, pieces. The idea that there are many such pieces out there is erroneous. A survey of top dealers and their inventory will reveal that very few good pieces are,in actual fact, available, especially for earlier Hammer Film Quads and even re-release Universal Quads are becoming scarce.

US 1 sheets tend to be more plentiful as our US cousins actually appreciated these pieces from the early days of cinema and, of course, with the size of the US compared to the UK, many more copies were printed, so Quads tend to be much more scarce on a title. Some posters are re-issue which means the movie was released again at a later date from the original release and these also are real cinema used posters, sometimes with different artwork from the originals. Values depend on the desirability of a title, star, condition and age.

This item: A scarce original release UK Quad poster for this well known horror movie based on an apparent true story.    Scarce

Stars:
James Brolin, Margot Kidder, Rod Steiger, Murray Hamilton.

Size
         30.00 x 40.00 inches approx.

Condition: (items are vintage so never mint): I start with Fine, Very Good, Good, Poor with ++ to - in these categories)       Very Good  : folds;   light corner pin-holes; corners and edges are good, with some light wear; obviously used for a double-bill as a cinema person has written 'Plus' on the poster and affixed another title, once removed it has removed some surface colour in the solid dark area not affecting words nor images - priced accordingly.

POST & PACKAGING: all items are securely packaged, for as a collector myself I appreciate the need for secure packaging and all materials used are new. Posting / shipping depends on the item value and under £10.00 1st class post will be used; for items over this amount a tracked / insured system will be used for both UK and international postings / shipping, the choice and consequent costs for P&P being determined by the item value and also the destination.

Thank you for the kind words, Robert. I shall look forward to hearing from you in the future; my own interest in the genre is explained on my eBid profile, so won't go over it here, suffice to say it is good to hear from a fellow genre fan / collector. Kind regards, Richard
