Album Notes
Personnel: Mark Hoppus (vocals). This eclectic and wide-ranging mix of punk rock stars, contenders, and also-rans from across the national scene as collected by Boston's Side One Dummy label is chock full of the kind of angst-ridden material (mixed with a few drinking songs) that's been beloved of punk performers ever since Iggy first started rolling around on broken light bulbs. The label's own Mighty Mighty Bosstones contribute their own distinctive high-octane brand of punk ska with "Sugar Free," while from the other side of the continent Blink-182 shows they're still in touch with the scene with their previously unreleased collision of matter and anti-matter "Time to Break Up."Jimmy Eat World's live version of "A Praise Chorus" shows the band at its emocore best, taking the message back to the Brits in London, while Chicago's own Alkaline Trio's "Jaked on Green Beers" follows in the band's triumphal tradition of alcohol-and-perturbation-filled songs such as 2000's "Snake Oil Tanker." A successful mix of punk rock solidarity and commercial smarts, DRAGGING THE LAKE will doubtless become a punk primer for the uninitiated as well as a being great listen for the cognoscenti.
Square spot in upper right hand corner is from my price stickers and is on jewel case or plastic wrapping if sealed.
