Jancsó’s powerful, symbol-laden , affectingly acted film about a Hungarian (Kozák) trying to reach home through Soviet-held land in the last days of the war. He’s arrested and and imprisoned at a remote barracks, where he strikes up an unlikely friendship with a young Russian soldier.
The stills are in very good condition.
