This is a postcard-sized black & white photo showing the British Railways 0-6-2 tank steam locomotive no. 41985 hauling a freight train. It is described on the back as near Purfleet on 23 March 1957. The loco was ex-LMS Tilbury Tank class, dating from 1903, and was withdrawn from BR service in 1959.
