Seller's Description
Coffee Tea Dessert Fork ~ Coronation Queen Elizabeth II 2nd June 1953
I acquired this fork from an estate sale.
The crest on the top of this fork has a picture of Queen Elizabeth II with " Coronation Elizabeth II" and "2nd June 1953". The rear of the fork shaft is stamped "EPNS Made In England"".
The fork measures 5-5/8 inches (14.3 cm) long X 13/16 inch (2.1 cm) wide (At the widest part of the fork tines) and weighs about 25 gr.
The fork is in fair condition. One of the tines are bent at the end and the spoon has some tarnish and pitting. Some of the finish has been worn away on the rear. (See pictures).
From Wikipedia:
Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II
The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II as monarch of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Ceylon, and Pakistan took place on 2 June 1953. Elizabeth, then aged 25, ascended the thrones of these countries upon the death of her father, King George VI, on 6 February 1952, and was proclaimed queen by her various privy and executive councils shortly afterwards. The coronation was delayed for more than a year because of the tradition that such a festival was inappropriate during the period of mourning that followed the death of the preceding sovereign. In the ceremony itself, Elizabeth swore an oath to uphold the laws of her nations and to govern the Church of England. Celebrations took place and a commemorative medal was issued throughout the Commonwealth realms.
