Seller's Description

1954 Germany Emergency Tax Stamp

Cancelled, no hinge marks

Issued in 1949 to help defray the costs of the Berlin Airlift during the Soviet Union blockade and later to provide continuing assistance to the people of Berlin.

Denomination is 2 pfennig

Performation 14

Very tiny stamp measures 1 mm by 2 mm

I found this in a list with this number, which I believe is from a specialized German catalog.

Scott and Stanley Gibbons do not list tax stamps. Although this is technically a tax stamp, it was in fact sold by the post office and it had no use other than on mail.
