""We, Thomas Harry Gardner and Edward Gardner, both of Cornbrook, Manchester, Engineers, do hereby declare the nature of this invention to be as follows: According to this invention a swinging frame is pivotted in the upper part of the front portion of the two sides of the frame of a chair. The swinging frame hangs downwards and to its lower end two side arms are pivotted to which are fixed the footboards - one footboard that nearest to the seat a horizontal one the other at the extremity of the side arms inclining upwards...""
