Seller's Description
Up for sale is this original British WWII Spike Bayonet complete with scabbard made to attach to the No. 4 British .303 rifle (Inventory #8).
This is the 2nd pattern of spike bayonet and was forged from one solid piece of steel.
Markings are almost non-existent on this piece but the maker’s mark “N 67” is stamped on the latch plunger face (see photo) which do show that it was made in Scotland at the Singer Manufacturing Co. in Clydebank and must be a No. 4 Mk II as this facility only made that version of the spike bayonet. This facility made approximately 1,141,782 No. 4 Mk. II bayonets from 1942–1944.
There is a small crude stick-type “arrowhead” stamped on the left side of the latching mechanism which could be a viewer’s (inspector’s) mark of some sort.
The scabbard is complete with the zinc-alloy mouthpiece (bushing) intact along with the spring retainer which holds the inserted spike.
