Bathurst New Brunswick Canada Souvenir Teaspoon Tea Spoon Purple Violet 4-9/16" long
I acquired this spoon from an estate sale.
The crest on the top of the spoon says New Brunswick Canada. The crest graphic represents the Purple Violet, the New Brunswick Provincial Emblem. The crest colours are green, purple and yellow on a silver background.
The bowl of the spoon is engraved: Bathurst.
The rear of the spoon is marked: Japan.
The spoon measures 4-9/16 inches (11.5 cm) long X 15/16 inch (2.3 cm) wide (At the widest part of the spoon bowl).
Early settlers from France came to the area in the 17th century in what became part of the colony of Acadia. Following the fall of this part of Acadia to British control in the Seven Years' War, the region saw the arrival of numerous English and Scottish settlers, particularly during the latter 18th century through to the 20th century. The community was named by the Governor, Sir Howard Douglas (1823–1831), in honor of Henry Bathurst, 3rd Earl Bathurst (1762–1834), Secretary of State for the Colonies of the British government.
