Compared to the two previous books, it was almost completely free of specially hunting, professional elements and became an artistic narrative. N. Nekrasov called it a beautiful book, filled with useful hunting notes and observations, picturesque pictures of nature, interesting anecdotes and poetry (Sovremennik, 1855. # 6).
