Additional descriptive notes (if applicable): the full descriptive text on the back of the postcard reads 'Spurn Point - Today's Spurn is perhaps the fifth penninsula in recorded history - each one a little further west than the last.  In about AD670, the monk Wilgils established a monastery on a split [sic] 'surrounded by the Humber and the sea.'  It became a YWT Nature Reserve in 1960, and it remains a unique feature of our coastline.  Perhaps one of the most important sites in Europe for wintering and migrating wading birds and wildfowl.  It is also an excellent place for oberving bird migration.  The Lighthouse was built in 1895 to replace an earlier one which stood in a circular compound nearby.  Disused since 1985, it is nearly 40m highe and was visible for 17 miles.  The Humber Lifeboat is normally moored at the Humber Pilots Jetty.'
