Antique Book, 1938, Straw in the Hair (An Anthology of Nonsensical and Surrealist Verse) - 1st Ed, Signed by Denys Kilham Roberts, Rare
This sale is for a very rare, 1938, first edition of the book, "Straw in the Hair - An Anthology of Nonsensical and Surrealist Verse", compiled and edited by Denys Kilham Roberts which includes poems from Walter de la Mare, William Shakespeare, John Charlton, William Blake, Lewis Carroll, Edward Lear and many others including verse from unknown authors. This was published by John Lane, The Bodley Head in London. This is a hardback book which has red writing and a picture on the spine.
This is a very rare copy of several reasons. Firstly, it is signed by the editor, Denys Kilham Roberts in a dedication to a Camilla. Secondly, it is a First Edition. Thirdly, it is illustrated and Finally, there are not that many copies of the book around and none I could find with a signature.
The overall condition of the book is excellent with the exception of cracking in the spine in a couple of places (please see the advert pictures).

Physical Condition:-
Binding:- Overall Excellent condition. The binding is mostly tight though cracked into two places that we can see. No loose pages.
Pages:- All present, none missing.
Condition of Pages:- Excellent condition. There is a name "Camilla Skipworth" written on the first blank page and a dedication written by the editor in pen that says "For Camilla June 1943, D.K.R". No marks, no tears. Some slight foxing.
Spine:- Excellent condition though there is some slight wear and tear at the top and bottom of the spine (please see the pictures).
Front & Rear Cover:- Excellent condition (please see the pictures).
