Genuine Ancient Roman Bronze Senatorial Toga Pin
Hello there and welcome (kroeso) to my wee store.
I sell online in high-end shops and websites and pre-Covid used to attend trade fairs around the globe. I have a huge stock of "bargain basement" items which were great at fairs for inexpensive extras. I also have a massive stock of highly valuable and collectable items never seen before on the internet.
This is part of my very rare collection of ancient, museum quality, artefacts that I rarely offer for sale as they have been part of my personal collection for years.
ABOUT THIS RING
Constructed from solid bronze, hand worked.
OBVIOUSLY pre dates hallmarking by a very long way.
Dates to the 3rd Century, most likely Severus Alexander reign.
Italy found (North) on an excavation.
Hand made Toga pin with thick twisted bronze pin and twisted circle wreath.
This was used to fasten a toga at the shoulder and pins of this quality were often seen being worn by senators and other dignitaries.
You can just feel the history in this item, very hard to come by and of Museum quality.
Good wearable condition.
I can polish ancient items like this to "as new" but flat out refuse to do so. It has been thoroughly cleaned and polished but any more would detract from its history.
Total length is 74 mm.
Width across wreath is 32mm.
Width of pin is 3mm.
Nice and sturdy and chunky and an impressive 14 grams.
Pricing an item like this is very difficult as it is irreplaceable. You could easily pay over £1,000 but in all honesty I just want to pass some of these treasures on and am only looking to make my money back (many 1000s invested over the years lol)
