• General comments: The Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) was founded in 1820 has most of the UK’s leading astronomers as members and quite a few other distinguished astronomers from around the world. The RAS headquarters are in Burlington House, London, in the Same area as the Royal Academy. This diary has the RAS logo (the Herschel telescope) embossed in a silver colour on the front cover. The inside has various sections e.g. dates of term at university, societies affiliated to the RAS, space and astronomy anniversaries in 2017, meeting dates, dates of 2017 astronomical phenomena, which planets you can see with the naked eye (and when), phases of the Moon and meteor showers, a cosmological timeline, data about the Earth and the seasons, sunspot count data, physical constants, a planner section, a map of the world with time zones, a map of the UK rail network, and a map of London transport/underground.
