"Stephen Snowdon, joiner, 84 Stockton Street, Moss Side, Manchester & Ernest Edwin Lawrence, commercial traveller, 84 Stockton Street, Moss side, Manchester, do hereby declare the nature of this invention to be as follows: this invention can be adapted for all kinds of seats, but primary for protection from wet weather on tops of tram cars, buses, garden seats and the like.  also for theatres and all such, that are required to resume the perpendicular when the sitter rises from the seat..."
