The book is called the second Book of Memory: the very idea of the publication suggests another, this time an op-ed address to the topic of the exploits of the Urals killed and missing in Afghanistan. The height and scope of the plan called on the authors to undertake enormous research and journalistic work, and they coped with this work by spending not less than 6 years of their lives collecting and thinking about it. Since the launch of the project in 2002, Mayorovas spouses have personally visited many families to which the Afghan war has brought funerals, studied letters and diaries, and interviewed relatives, friends and acquaintances of soldiers and officers called up from the Sverdlovsk region who have not returned from the flames of an undeclared war.
