I
caught the fishing bug as a young lad more than 40 years ago and being
based on the estuary of the River Colne in north east Essex I've been
lucky enough to have the opportunity to fish much more regularly than
many anglers can manage.
I was also a professional bait digger and rod-builder for over a decade
before moving away from the tackle/bait trade for a number of
years. I started up BlakDogTackle.com as a family-run, online only
business in 2008 with the help of my wife, who runs the day-to-day
administration of the company. We currently specialise in supplying sea
angling tackle, particularly tournament reel upgrades, light-line tackle and rod building equipment to UK and international
customers and are increasing our range of products regularly so
hopefully every sea angler will find something that is on
their wish list amongst our products.
As a customer of a
great many tackle retailers over the last 40 years I have long since recognised
that good customer service is every bit as important as competitive prices. With
this experience in mind the basic principles behind BlakDogTackle.com are
simple; we will do our best to offer good-quality products at affordable prices,
backed up with honest advice about the products we sell (even if it means you
don't buy from us) and a high level of customer service.
While it would be
impossible to test every single item of equipment personally (if only I had that
much fishing time available) I do attempt to try out as many items as possible
and will not retail equipment that I wouldn't be happy to use myself. Customers
are also very much encouraged to review the products they have purchased; if an
item we have sold is not up to standard we want to know about it.

Prices and Tax
Our prices are displayed in Pounds Sterling including 20% VAT (Sales Tax) but excluding postage costs. VAT is included in all orders to customers in the EU but will be removed from orders supplied to non-EU Countries and the correct totals will automatically be calculated by our Shopping Cart during the checkout process. We are happy to supply VAT invoices upon request (please email us or leave a note at checkout); our VAT registration number is 178315391.
Payment
We accept payment for UK and International orders via Nochex (orders up to £200 only) and Paypal; you can pay for your order using a credit or debit card without setting up an account with either merchant. Both Companies manage your credit / debit card details on their own site and they are not stored or held on BlakDogTackle.com's system at any time. We do not accept payments over the telephone, nor do we accept Personal Cheques or Postal Orders. In very exceptional circumstances, by prior agreement, we may accept Postal Orders made out to cash but please contact us first to arrange payments using this method.

International shipping options to the countries listed below are available in our cart system however oversees customers should note that import or other duties on the consignment may be levied by authorities in their own Country which are the responsibility of the customer and will not be paid by BlakDogTackle. Free shipping offers are available to UK residents only.
Shipping and Handling
The bulk of our orders are dispatched via Royal Mail and are priced according to size, value and weight. Customers may choose their choice of shipping method from the list displayed during the checkout process and all shipping costs include postal insurance for the full value of the goods. We do our very best to ensure that all orders placed before 2pm are dispatched the same day however we cannot guarantee delivery times due to inconsistencies in Royal Mail's delivery times. Orders placed on weekends or public holidays will be dispatched on the next working day. Please note that BlakDogTackle.com is a mail order only company; we have no retail showroom and can only accept personal callers in very exceptional circumstances.
Defective Goods / Lost or Damaged Orders
We want to ensure that our customers are happy with the products that we sell. All of the products that we sell (with the exception of used items) come with a full manufacturers warranty and any products found to be faulty upon receipt will be replaced immediately at our cost. Should any items become faulty during use please contact BlakDogTackle.com to discuss the options for repair under warranty or replacement; should you decide to accept a warranty repair on any item your statutory rights are not effected in any way. Should we require the return of a damaged item then BlakDogTackle.com will compensate you fully for the cost of return postage when we receive the item.
All orders are covered by full insurance; if your order is dispatched and does not arrive we will refund you the full amount of your order, including postage and packing costs once the required waiting time (defined by Royal Mail) has passed. Currently UK items are declared officially lost by Royal Mail 15 working days after the due date of delivery in the case of First Class items and Standard Parcels and 10 working days in the case of Next Day deliveries. For International orders the waiting times are 20 working days for items to European destinations and 25 working days for items to Non-European International destinations; please note that these waiting times are set by the UK postal service and not BlakDogTackle.com and are therefore out of our control.
Please Note: Tracked services will require a signature upon delivery. In the event that a signature cannot be obtained the items will be held by the postal service and a notification left at the address giving you a time period to collect the item from the postal service before it is returned to us. If an item is not collected within this time period and the order is returned to us we reserve the right to charge an additional delivery charge to re-send the order or to with-hold the postage charge in the event of a refund to the customer.

BlakDogTackle.com fully complies with the terms of the EU Distance Selling Regulations. EU customers may cancel any order you have made prior to dispatch and will receive a full refund immediately. You may also return any item without explanation within seven working days from the day after that on which you received the goods. We will refund the full cost of the item (including the cost of posting it to you) once the item or items are received so long as they are unused, their original packaging is complete and undamaged and the item is in a sale-able condition. Non EU customers may also cancel an order at any time before dispatch and receive a refund in full. They may also return any item without explanation within seven working days from the day after that on which you received the goods to receive a refund on the cost of the returned item or items. Please note that the original postage costs will not be refunded to non EU customers.
Should any items of your order be damaged in transit BlakDogTackle.com will replace or refund those items without delay at our cost; we do ask that the customer provide us with sufficient evidence to make a damage claim from the postal service in these circumstances. We may also ask you to return the items to us in some cases. Please ensure that you supply the correct address details with your order and update your address in the members area when necessary as we are unable to refund customers for orders lost as a result of BlakDogTackle.com being supplied incorrect details by the customer.
