Artist CV:

CARON, Paul Archibald Octave (1874-1941)

Born in Montreal, he studied drawing and painting under William Brymner, Maurice Cullen and Edmond Dyonnet at the Art Association of Montreal School; also in New York and Philadelphia. He worked as: draughtsman for J.C. Spence & Sons, Mtl., makers of stained-glass (1891-1902); as an illus­trator for La Presse (1897-1908) and the Montreal Star; as an illustrator and later director for Desbarats Advertising Agency, Mtl. He turned to full-time painting of old buildings and ancient cottages in the districts of Montreal and Quebec City, landscapes of the Laurentians and Baie St. Paul region. Several of his winter scenes were reproduced on Christmas cards. Many of his paintings were done in water colour and he took great care in the selection of his materials to ensure permanency. He won the Jessie Dow Prize for water colours twice (1931) (1936). Four of his beautiful landscapes in oils decorated Blodwen Davies' Saguenay (1930). He exhibited with: RCA; Spring Shows, Art Assoc. of Mtl. (MMFA); OSA and the Fine Arts Section, Canadian National Exhibition. The National Gallery of Canada has two fine examples of his work, Infant (1915), pastel on buff paper, and Old-Shops Notre-Dame Street (1923), water colour over graphite on heavy wove paper. He died in Montreal in 1941 at the age of 67. His affiliations were: Newspaper Artists' Assoc. (1903); Arts Club of Mtl. (1912); CSGA (1924-36); CPE (1929); Pen & Pencil Club, Mtl. (1937); ARCA (1939)

1.  We expect payment within 48 hours of purchase and we ship within a day or two.

3. Please note that we issue no refunds or returns on our vintage items. All sales are final without exception. You are most welcome to ask for more information or more pictures – we respond within a day.

3.  Our shipping rates are estimates for shipping items in the most economical fashion via Canada Post. If you require expedited or express delivery, or full insurance coverage, please let us know so we could get you a quote.

4.  Although we ship Worldwide, we reserve the right to decline certain countries due to their high-risk status.  We ask that you write to us for a quote for regular untracked delivery or tracked delivery before you make a purchase.

5.  Our descriptions reflect our personal and honest estimate and idea of the items we list: we do our research but are not experts in every area. If you need to clarify information we provide, we will respond within a day. Items are sold as is.

6. If, in exceptional cases, we agree to take back an item, you, the buyer, must follow our instructions as how to return the item to us, and pay the full cost of return shipping. If, under those circumstances, we consider a partial or full refund,  that will exclude the price we paid to ship the item to you.

7.  We are not responsible for any duty or customs fees or any other fees levied by your authorities in your country. We mark each package with the true description of content and the value of the item.  We cannot mark a purchase as Gift – it is against the law everywhere. So please find out what the rules are in your country before you purchase from us. We are not responsible for loss or damage of items in transit to destination.

8.  We keep all shipping receipts and can supply you a copy anytime. If you did not upgrade  your shipping with us to fully tracked and insured, please do not expect that service.
