The author, Reif Karl Philippe (1792-1872), a famous lexicographer originally from Switzerland, lived long in St. Petersburg, serving as a teacher of new languages and was well versed in the Russian language. His Russo-French Dictionary was published in 1835-1836. It was the debut of the first Russian etymological dictionary, because in many cases the Russian part of it had etymological references.
