R22 Replacement

Can R449a be added to systems containing R22 without materially affecting the performance of the whole system?

First and foremost, the EPA does not condone, recommend or approve of mixing any refrigerants.

*Mixing of refrigerants is allowed in other countries however!

However, R449a does not form an azeotropic mixture with R22.

Therefore, if a technician inadvertently or unknowingly adds R449a to a system containing R22 the system will not generate any higher pressures and will operate as normal without any harm to system components.

*True Drop-In Replacement for R22

*No Oil Changes

*No System Changes Required

*Made in the USA

The only refrigerant we use for all R22 applications!

R449a is the LOWEST GWP and the Only NON-FLAMMABLE Retrofit Replacement Refrigerant for R22

R449a has an ASHRAE designation of R449A and is now available in the United States.

This revolutionary refrigerant is the only retrofit replacement for R22 that we have been using in all R22 systems.

R449A is EPA SNAP approved and A1 ASHRAE certified as non-flammable and non-toxic.

The refrigerant does not require design modifications or component changes.

R449a can operate with existing mineral oils present in R22 systems.

R449a is an HFO blend, which is the environmentally friendly alternative to the commonly used HFC blend in other refrigerants.

Using R449a as a replacement is easy.

Just use the same tools, test instruments, and recovery machines as you use with a R22 system.

R449A can accommodate state and federal legislation as they phase out high-GWP refrigerants, such as R22 with a 2088 GWP.

R449A is formulated to be trouble-free and works with all R22 compressors, system components and mineral & POE oils.

R449a has similar properties to R22, including discharge pressure, discharge temperature, energy efficiency, and cooling capacity.

R449a adds up to an ideal replacement for R22.

Clearly label the system to show it contains R449A.

1) Ensure the right equipment is available (e.g., recovery unit and cylinders, container for recovered lubricant, vacuum pump, weighing scales, replacement drier, etc.)

2) Record baseline data to establish the normal operating conditions for the equipment

3) Check the manufacturer’s specifications for the unit to find the recommended R22 charge in order to determine the amount of R449A to add.

4) Replace the filter/drier if moisture is suspected in the system. This is not necessary on a sealed system.

5) Having evacuated the system, liquid charge the unit with R449A up to 90% of the original charge amount of R22 and then compare to baseline data.

6) Switch on the unit and compare the baseline data, monitor sight glasses, suction line pressure and temperature, and discharge temperature; add additional R449A up to the recommended R22 system charge amount as needed.

7) Check system thoroughly for leaks; and repair as needed.

8) Clearly label the system to show it contains R449A.

****You will receive a label with the refrigerant.

Switch on the unit and compare the baseline data, monitor sight glasses, suction line pressure and temperature, and discharge temperature; add additional R449A up to the recommended R22 system charge amount as needed.

You must be certified by the (EPA), Section 608 or Section 609 to purchase this item.

You must show proof of certification before paying and before the item is shipped.

*If you are purchasing this item for resale only to EPA Certified Technicians then please indicate so in a message and please keep accurate records of same.

Thank you.
