About the Parelli Method of Horse Training

The Parelli Method of horse training teaches expertise and success with horses based on the way horses relate and communicate in their natural world – hence the term “natural horsemanship.”

The natural approach to horse training is effective with all horse breeds, all disciplines and all styles of riding including Western, dressage, jumping, cross country, drag hunting, polo, racing, or simply happy hacking. Parelli Patterns Overview

Parelli Patterns are the exercises you do every day with your horse to gain a stronger relationship and build communication and partnership. Developed by Pat Parelli, the Parelli Patterns are based on the fact that horses naturally desire and thrive on routines, repetition and consistency.

Rather than just riding in mindless circles or micromanaging a horse, these patterns help develop a horse mentally, emotionally and physically.  The horses learn the patterns, stay mentally engaged and take more responsibility acting as your partner.  Some patterns help motivate horses while others are calming, and the way they are set up is to help develop your horse level by level and in each of the Four Savvys, first as a foundation and then you can use them for performance.  Parelli Patterns have an amazing effect on horse's behavior, overcoming negative patterns and replacing them with positive patterns.

As you progress through each level of patterns, you will realize that your horse seems to know what to do and starts following the pattern with little to no guidance from you, making your horse an active participant in the training sessions. Through ground play with patterns, you will learn to read your horse and build a strong, trusting and life-long relationship.

Parelli Patterns will provide you with an understanding into Pat’s blueprint for developing horses and riders through four areas of study called the Four Savvys: On Line, Liberty, FreeStyle and Finesse. Riders can study one group of patterns at a time, or save by purchasing all four patterns together.

Freestyle Patterns

Riding without contact helps horses become more responsible, self-controlled, confident and relaxed. Having no contact helps riders become more balanced, fluid, confident and develop a deeply connected seat. The FreeStyle Patterns include a DVD, book of tips, progress map and handy pocket guide.
