• Comments: The Space Guard Centre is located in the outskirts of Knighton, and hosts the biggest optical telescope in Wales, a 24” reflector, Spaceguard’s purpose is two fold. Firstly, to check up on recently discovered (or poorly measured) near Earth asteroids so that we know more precisely where they are. Secondly to educate the public and society at large about the hazards of asteroid impacts. The have two large old telescopes and a robotic telescope. There is also a planetarium, a museum area and a fantastic meteorite collection. Well worth visiting if you are on the Welsh-English border region in the UK. The Spaceguard Centre has been in existence since 2001 and is a really amazing place with dedicated staff. Unlike a leaflet issued in 2019, this version has no date, but mentions support from Newhert Ltd. The Spaceguard observatory site featured in a BBC Wales website news story from 28^th June 2020.
