Handmade Beaded Leather Belt w/Ties 50 inches long 2 inches wide
Some stitching has come apart on the beadwork and some beads are missing. Also there are several spots of glue on one side of the beadwork.
This leather belt has a total length of 57 inches (144.8 cm) (including the 7 inch (17.8cm)long ties). It is made up from a band of beadwork measuring 25 inches (63.5 cm) long X 2 inches (5 cm) wide. Leather straps have been roughly sewn on to the ends of the beadwork to make it into the belt. The first strap measures 15 inches (38 cm) long, including the 7 inch (18cm) long ties. The second strap measures 18 inches (45.7 cm) long and has a slit cut into it to accept the ties on the other strap. Both straps are rough cut, varying in width from 2 to 2-1/2 inches (5 to 6.4 cm). The stitching looks like it may have been done by a child or someone with very limited sewing abilities. The belt weighs 4-1/2 ounces (130 gr).
9 white beads are missing from the edge of the beadwork where a thread has broken. Also there are quite a few glue remnants on one side of the beadwork leaving me to think that the beadwork strap might have been a hatband at one time.
With a bit of TLC this could once again be a great belt, or maybe a hatband, for your native display or costume.
I am unsure of the history on this belt. I bought it at an antique auction that was selling items from the early 1800’s thru to the 1950’s from a museum, in a small campground, not too far from my home.
The belt will be bagged in a poly Ziploc bag and shipped in a padded envelope.
