Background :
Heinrich Roth was a seventh-generation violin maker who worked with his father, Ernst Heinrich Roth, and his brother, Albert, in the family shop in Markneukirchen, Germany.
He came to America and in 1932 where he partnered with Max Scherl to buy an existing firm and renamed it Roth & Scherl. The "Faciebat Cremona 1713" label is an indication that this is a copy of a violin by Antonio Stradivari.
