Transparent feldspars in sizes large enough to cut are very rare. Bytownite is a rarer, calcium-rich variety of the plagioclase series of feldspars. It gets its name from Canada's capital city, Ottawa, which was once known as Bytown. This piece is quite transparent in a soft, pale yellow. A beautiful gem of which few have heard, let alone seen. It's a larger collector-size that will work well a special jewel design.
