This is the tale of Happy Boy, a Chinese youth who has come to Peking, for fulfillment of his modest ambitions. We learn of his health, strength and loyalty, the boundless will to work, and how he is caught up in the changing social trends. A throughly Chinese story, recounting the sweat, suffering, hopes, blunders and fall of China.
