Myself and Games
I have always
loved games, I played my very first computer game "Scooby Doo"
on the Commodore 16/+4, I was hooked. We kept
the Commodore 16/+4 for a number of years, some games I played
later included "Kane", "Varmint", "Icicle Works", and of course
the amazing "Fire Ant".
Some time later, I progressed to the hugely popular Nintendo
Gameboy - I'm talking about the original "Solus" model here,
black and white screen, it came with three games, "Tetris" (who
hasn't played this??), "Blades of Steel" (impressive ice hockey
game), and "Mickey's Dangerous Chase" (so addictive!). It also
had the grey "Nuby" hard plastic carry case.
When I really took off as a gamer was when I bought the fabulous
Super Nintendo Entertainment System, that loveable one we call
the SNES! I got the Super Mario Allstars package, I can still
remember the day I visited Comet and bought it, how exciting!
Games which followed were Lethal Weapon, Starwing, and during
the end of my Super Nintendo reign, I owned a grand total of
some 70+ cartridges, most of them boxed with instructions and in
excellent condition...
The Super Nintendo was so tragically sold, along with all of the
games, for a pittance, the money went towards a Sony
PlayStation, bought out of a catalogue it came with a few games,
which included Command & Conquer, Rage Racer, and some other
ones which I can't remember. I was blown away by Command &
Conquer, and the PlayStation reigned for several years, the
greatest highlight being FINAL FANTASY VII (7) - a truly amazing
game which everyone deeply into gaming was playing at the time,
even many "non-hardcore" gamers found themselves sucked into the
depths of this time-consuming RPG.
Of
course during these years I experienced many other gaming
delights, and experiences, for example, the Nintendo VS Sega debate, this
always used to take place between myself and one particular
friend, I was always adamant that Nintendo was the best, and he
was adamant that it was Sega whom ruled supreme (of course they both
rock)... but I now must say that I rather like Sega... ,
other friends owned consoles such as the NES (I don't remember
much of the NES... it was usually flashing! ha ha), the Master
System (a truly excellent console), one friend even had an Amiga
(it was pretty cool)
