Platform 1 in use at Aldywch in 1958
Packed with historical data and lots of diagrams and excellent photos all from the official London Underground archives.
20 pages cover to cover, and includes the site history, the war time useage, post war years, closure and it's use in the contemporary era.
ALDWYCH STATION history: A terminal station on a shuttle spur on the Piccadilly line. Accesible via street level or at the other end at Holborn station.
Opened in 1907 and closed in 1993, this was opened for the anticipated use by theatre patrons. Ultimatley closed in September 1993 when the cost of the the lift replacement proved too costly, when the footfall at the station didnt justify it.
Now a closed and disused station, used for filming and occasional tours. A time capsule.
