Seller's Description

Rail (Enthusiast) May 1994. Issue No.225

Main features:

- 'Old' Look for South Eastern EPB:  The three unrefurbished 4-EPB units used on South Eastern's Kent Link network now all sport three differing historical liveries following the repainting of No.5176 into all-over blue livery. The newly repainted unit was pistured at Slade Green depot on March 31. Sister unit No.5001 sports all-over green livery, whilst No.5196 is in the 1980s corporate blue and grey colour scheme. All three units are in regular service as part of South Eastern's Networker contingency plans.

- News:  Eurostar train operates high-speed special in France; National Power Class59 on test and at rest; Railway Inspectorate publishes report into the collision between two trains at Stafford  in 1990; Project Inform goes live in the Cardiff Valleys; the government abandons the Waterloo Link; passenger boost for the Vale of Glamorgan; Railtrack to acquire Sandite vehicles; Underground train collides with overhead line structure at Harrow and Wealdstone and the British Airports Authority considers dedicated railway shuttle services.

- Locos for Sale:  The disposal of redundant locomotives and coaches is big business for British Rail and is masterminded from Derwent House in Derby - the headquarters of BR's Director of Procurement and Materials Management. Murray Brown reveals how you could become the owner of a BR locomotive or coach.

- The Human Revolution:  Dick Hardy concludes his account of the impact that the introduction of diesel traction at Stratford depot had on the workforce. Dick also recalls the visit of the Queen to Stratford depot.
