Rail (Enthusiast) April 1994. Issue No.223

Main features:

- Class 47 Freightliner Trials:  As exclusively revealed in RAIL No.222, Railfreight Distribution has now begun trials between Ipswich and Felixstowe with pairs of Class 47 locomotives, in multiple, on Freightliner trains as a replacement for the Class 37s which are currently used. Trials started using Nos.47150 and 47152 on March 14 and the pair was photographed at Westerfield Junction two days later working the 1322 Freightliner service from Ipswich to Felixstowe North FLT. The modification to allow multiple operation was carried out at Tinsley depot and the multiple working connector between locomotives is situated in the former headcode box. A further two Class 47 locomotives have also been multiple-working modified - Nos.47303 and 47328. Renumbering has recently been effected viz: 47150(47399),47152(47398), 47303(47397) and 47328(47396), with six more locos to follow.
