Seller's Description

Rail (Enthusiast) May 1993. Issue No.199

Main features:

- New Shunters from Hunslet-Barclay:  Hunslet-Barclay has outshopped three new 750bhp, 84-tonne shunters for Baoshan steelworks, China. They will be used for moving torpedo and ingot wagons in the works. These were shipped from Immingham early in April. They are based on the highly successful Blue John shunter, now operating at Blue Circle's Earles cement works in the Hope Valley. Numbered 778-80, the locomotives are equipped with a computer-controlled wheelslip system.

- News:  InterCity and Network SouthEast compete for new rolling stock, experimental livery for a Class 47, two HST vehicles are refurbished for evaluation trials, rail to benefit from Transport Supplementary Grant, a Class 50 to visit the NRM, more BR locomotives are sold to presevationists. 18 pages of the most up to date news.

- Continental Junction Finished:  Gary Moore reports on the last step in linking the BR network to that of Continental Europe by completing the new Continental Junction at Dollands Moor.

- The Peterborough Pundit:  Privatisation of the railways means different things to different people and is an emotive subject. The Peterborough Pundit examines some of the problems that may well occur.

- Weardale line Dies:  The Weardale line in County Durham has closed following the running of the last train on April 10. All is not lost though, as a preservation scheme has been launched to reopen it.
