Main features:

- News Lines:  Regular freight workings to  return to the Settle and Carlisle line, masonry crashes off Leamington Viaduct, Class 25 helps out at ARC, private company gets franchise from InterCity. 18 pages of extended news coverage.

- MC Metals:  The first of a two-part feature in which Philip Sutton visits the former St.Rollox Works in Glasgow to talk with Jim MacWilliam, Managing Director of MC Metal Proceessing Limited.

- Cumbrian Freight Branch:  The Royal Navy Depot at Broughton moor in Cumbria is under threat of closure. This will mean the end of the four mile freight branch which serves it.

- The 1950s Live On:  After agreeing to a repaint of Class 31 No.31165 into original condition as D5583 in green, the Director of Civil Engineering has had a saloon painted in 'blood and custard' livery.

- Departmental Locomotives:  Philip Sutton describes the separation of the Civil Engineer's resources into business sectors and provides a complete list of locomotive allocations for the new pools which come into effect on April 6.
