Seller's Description
Please Note: Condition of this album and the stamps and first day covers in it are as it appears in the pictures. The limited edition album, slipcase, stamps and miniature sheets are in 'as new' condition. Photos show the stamps and first day covers that are in the album.
In 150 years, in a world where change is a constant companion, few items record a nation’s story as effectively as stamps. New Zealand has celebrated, commemorated and reflected on thousands of topics through its stamps. Sport, nature, personalities, events, causes, hopes, special days… each story was brought to life in colourful and striking designs that expressed the mood of the times.
In 2005, New Zealand Post celebrated 150 years of stamps in a style that truly befitted this extraordinary milestone – with this superb New Zealand Collection: 150 Years. The 15 stamps featured in this special edition provided a tantalising glimpse into the imagination and creativity of the designers, and the scope, scale and diversity of the subjects that they had covered. There were some of the greatest moments in New Zealand’s philatelic history – either because of the significance of the issues themselves in shaping our philatelic progress, or because the subject matters represented fundamental aspects of our way of life.
This magnificent 80-page publication is the ultimate ‘collector’s edition’. The collection is housed in its own black cloth-bound protective clam slip case. The front cover has silver and red embossing and all are individually numbered.
Limited Copies
Limited to only 4,000 copies worldwide, this is a comprehensive commentary on the life and times of New Zealand as depicted through it's stamps.
The story was told through three issues of five stamps each, spanning the years 1855-1905, 1905-1955 and 1955-2005. Together, they captured some of New Zealand's greatest philatelic moments, and provided a tantalising glimpse of the scope, scale and diversity of the subjects covered.
The collection includes a complete set of the 15 stamps presented as 10-stamp sheets, and one sheet of all 15 stamp designs, all individually numbered.
Gold-printed First Day Cover
Each 50-year section in the book starts with a gold-printed first day cover. Like all the sheets, all three first day covers are individually numbered and are exclusive only to this collection.
Special Sheet
A special sheet of the 1855 one-penny stamp incorporates a reproduction of the original 1855 one-penny stamp, meticulously reproduced using the original intaglio printing process.
The stamps have a face value of $204.60 and the first day covers have a face value of $18.60. The the original issue price was $295. The calalogue value of the limited edition folder is $NZ400 (ACS Catalogue 2019).
