Seller's Description
New Brunswick Canada Souvenir Teaspoon Tea Spoon Thunderbird 4-7/8" long
The rear of this spoon shaft has a large rust stain and damage to the finish. The rear of the spoon bowl also has damage to the finish.
I acquired this spoon from an estate sale.
The spoon is topped with a New Brunswick crest. The bowl of the spoon is engraved with a Thunderbird as is the stem of the spoon. The rear of the spoon is marked "Japan".
The spoon measures 4-7/8 inches (12.3 cm) long X 1 inch (2.4 cm) wide (At the widest part of the spoon bowl) and weighs 15 gr.
The spoon is in fair condition with a few light scratches and some rust and finish damage on the rear side. (See pictures).
From the Wikipedia:
Coat of arms of New Brunswick:
The original coat of arms of New Brunswick was granted to New Brunswick by a Royal Warrant of Queen Victoria on 26 May 1868. The provincial flag is a banner of the arms.
The shield features a lion passant or "leopard" in chief, commemorating both England and Brunswick. The principle charge is an ancient galley, symbolizing the maritime province's links to the sea.
Thunderbird
The thunderbird is a legendary creature in certain North American indigenous peoples' history and culture. It is considered a supernatural bird of power and strength. It is especially important, and frequently depicted, in the art, songs and oral histories of many Pacific Northwest Coast cultures, and is found in various forms among the peoples of the American Southwest, Great Lakes, and Great Plains. Thunderbirds were components of the Southeastern Ceremonial Complex of American prehistory.
