Seller's Description

How to Choose a Train Ticket: and Save Money

  • 1983 Jan 09
  • H.Q. 18. London Edition
  • “This is the Age of the Train”
  • 20 pages – with colour coded tabs to help locate pages
  • Size: 21cm x 15 cm x 1mm thick
  • Weight: 38g
  • British Rail booklet whose purpose is to instruct the passenger on how to buy a ticket and what types there are, as well as advertising / promoting the various services.
  • The people you see in the images do not look like normal British Rail passengers - they are just too happy and too well dressed and not what I remember passengers from London looking like then. Must be actors/extras?
  • Apart from the advertising image that British Rail were projecting at the time of happy passengers, this booklet features images of three Intercity 125’s.
  • There is a rather scary image of Jimmy Saville on p15 offering £1 vouchers and a separate Kellogg’s Free Rail Tickets for Children promotion.
  • P17 has a yellow train in Europe travelling past a wind mill – presumably in the Netherlands?
  • Why should you want to purchase this? Apart from collecting the glory days (?) of nationised British Rail train travel, this booklet is a great example of early 1980’s advertising. Also – maybe you know some of the people who featured in it and perhaps this booklet might make a nice present for them?
  • In good condition for a used item although there is a slight crease near centre spine of cover
  • If buyer lives outside the UK then they are responsible for any customs duty or import taxes
  • For returns the buyer pays for repackaging and postage
  • If you want to buy  this item and others in my shop - contact me, letting me know which items, and I will recalculate postage for you

Enjoy!
