Interesting type in attractive condition to be struck by VDM Metals, Werdohl in Germany. Recently with the help of this coin the dies classification was developed. As the result it was confirmed that this coin was struck in Germany.
Obverse
Die 1 - large letters in fine strokes.
Die 2 - large letters in bold strokes.
Die 3 - smaller letters with serifs, "U" and "B" in REPUBLICA almost touch each other.
Reverse
Die A - wider script, especially visible on final letter "O".
Die B - taller script, especially visible on letter "O", letters "E" and "N" almost touch each other.
Combinations
1+A: 1974, VDM Metals.
2+A: 1976, VDM Metals.
3+B: 1977, Llantrisant.
This coin is attributed as 2+A. For the next year all dies were cut from beginning for the Great Britain production and the Rev. of 1976 is the same as in 1974, it is expected that the 1974 and 1976 were struck at the same mint. But the 1974 is known to be made by VDM Metals, hence die analysis using this coin helped to confirm the mint, where 1976 issue was produced, is VDM Metals.
