Seller's Description

On DVD or VHS: SEATTLE SLEW, the 1977 TRIPLE  CROWN WINNER - See all 17 CAREER RACES in their ENTIRETY!!

This rare collection features all 17 of SEATTLE SLEW's entire career races in IN THEIR ENTIRETY....FROM START TO FINISH WITH ORIGINAL TRACK CALLS INCLUDING four  Xxx-RARE ALLOWANCE RACES that probably 99% of racing fans have never even laid eyes on!

1)  Watch SEATTLE SLEW first appear on the radar with his first race and win on September 20, 1976, in a maiden two-year-old race at Belmont Park

2)  In his second career start - an $11,000 allowance race at Belmont on October 5, 1976; SLEW wins by an easy 3-1/2 lengths

3)  It is followed by SEATTLE SLEW winning the Grade I Champagne Stakes at Belmont on October 16, 1976, by 9-3/4 length - SLEW's largest margin of victory; he defeats FOR THE MOMENT, who would go on to win the Blue Grass Stakes the following year. The Champagne victory closed out SLEW's juvenile season and stamps him Two-Year-Old Champion for 1976

4)  SLEW's first race as a three-year-old is a $7,000 allowance race at Hialeah Park on March 9, 1977 - he wins by nine lengths

5)  Next, on to bigger and better things as he runs to victory in the Grade I Flamingo Stakes at Hialeah Park on March 26, 1977, and

6)  in the Grade I Wood Memorial at Aqueduct on April 23, 1977, beating a good horse in SANHEDRIN

The next three races shown include his Triple Crown triumphs in the:

7)  Kentucky Derby (May 7, 1977) defeating RUN DUSTY RUN, IRON CONSTITUTION, FOR THE MOMENT and SANHEDRIN

8)  Preakness (May 21, 1977) beating IRON CONSTITUTION, RUN DUSTY RUN, J. O. TOBIN and CORMORANT

9)  Belmont (June 11, 1977) beating RUN DUSTY RUN, IRON CONSTITUTION and SANHEDRIN again to become racing's 10th Triple Crown winner and the only horse in history to win the Triple Crown undefeated

10)  Just three weeks and hot on the heels of winning the Belmont SEATTLE SLEW prematurely raced again on July 3, 1977, as his owners were tempted by the $300,000 purse of the Swaps Stakes at Hollywood Park. The race, California's first chance to see the undefeated champion up close, lured more than 60,000 fans to the track but sadly turned into a fiasco. Even though SLEW, the 1-5 favorite possessed a ton of natural speed, he was not ready and "needed a breather" as trainer, Billy Turner attested and the crowd witnessed the very first loss of his remarkable career. SEATTLE SLEW struggled home in a disappointing fourth place finish and 16 tired lengths behind eventual winner J.O. TOBIN. A frenetic racing schedule finally took its toll and this would be the only time in SEATTLE SLEW's career that he would ever again finish worse than second

Next watch as this feature picks up at the start of SLEW's four-year-old campaign and the next two races shown are both seven furlong $25,000 allowance races in which SEATTLE SLEW wins both handily:

11)  The first is a 6-length victory at Aqueduct on in Race 7 on May 14, 1978

12)  The second is an 8-1/2-length victory at Saratoga on August 12, 1978, in Race 7 over PROUD BIRDIE

In Race 13)  The ultra quick DR. PATCHES is just a little too much for SEATTLE SLEW as he is overtaken in the stretch of the September 5, 1978, Patterson Handicap at the Meadowlands

14)  Is the first match-up of two Triple Crown winners as SEATTLE SLEW takes on 1978 Triple Crown winner, AFFIRMED, in the Marlboro Cup at Belmont on September 16, 1978...the race is all SEATTLE SLEW as he defeats AFFIRMED (after a long and tiring non-stop 1978 Triple Crown campaign) by three lengths

Next, SLEW's victory in the 15)  Grade I Woodward Stakes at Belmont on September 30, 1978, is shown - this is the third time within a month that SLEW's run. He runs the 1-1/4-mile race in two minutes flat! Also included in this race is NASTY AND BOLD, COX'S RIDGE, DARBY CREEK ROAD and UPPER NILE

The next race is arguably SLEW's best race of all time... 16)  The 1978 Jockey Club Gold Cup (Gr. I) at Belmont on October 14, 1978; SLEW once again takes on AFFIRMED. The duo set suicidal fractions in the 1-1/2-mile race and in one of the greatest stretch-runs of all-time, the globe-trotting EXCELLER (ridden by famed jockey, WILLIE SHOEMAKER) just holds on to narrowly defeat SEATTLE SLEW by a hard-charging nose with AFFIRMED, GREAT CONTRACTOR and LIFE'S HOPE trailing behind. Even in defeat, this race is considered by many to be SLEW's greatest race - when faced with adversity he dug in deep and refused to go down easy without a struggle to the end; he garnered more respect and admiration narrowly losing than in all his previous races that he had won - he showed the heart of a champion!

This time capsule ends on a bright note with SEATTLE SLEW's victory in the:

17) 1978 Stuyvesant Handicap at Aqueduct on November 11, 1978; it would be SLEW's final career start.

Also included is a rare interview with SLEW's rider, ANGEL CORDERO, right after the running of the Stuyvesant Handicap and his thoughts and emotions on SEATTLE SLEW's retirement and a farewell speech given by Karen Taylor.

SEATTLE SLEW finished with a record of 14-2-0 from 17 starts. THIS TIME CAPSULE SHOWS EVERY SINGLE ONE OF SEATTLE SLEW's CAREER RACES ....17 IN ALL!! This is without question a very rare collection and already considered an instant classic. Picture quality and sound are excellent and all the races are shown in their ENTIRETY/UNCUT with ORIGINAL RACE CALLS - not just highlights but all races UNEDITED...a MUST-HAVE!!
