Seller's Description
Located in Columbia, S.C. This night-time scene is a mint-state, linen-paper print from Asheville Post Card Co. Reading on the back:
"Erected in 1850, it was here, on the 17th of December, 1860, that the 'Sucession' Convention of South Carolina met and organized, adjourning to meet again in Charleston on the afternoon of December 18th. At the time of Sherman's Invasion, the original old wooden church stood close by. Inquiring for 'The Baptist Church', an old negro pointed out the old wooden church to Sherman's troops, and it was the old wooden church that was burned."
This is image #C-135 and card #E-8825. Clean and sharp in every respect.
