Some Information About laurali

Giving you a little more insight into the seller.

Welcome! Thank you for visiting my page.

I am a fulltime artist and have been painting most of my life. I did my first oil painting when I was 12. Although mostly self taught, I have an A.A. Degree in Fine Arts from West Valley College in Saratoga, California. I am a second-generation artist. My father, Walter Sears Milnor (1936-2001), concentrated on painting large canvases of the California missions.

I am a native Californian and my greatest inspiration comes from the beautiful natural landscape. I take every opportunity to explore the amazing places around California to capture different times of day and seasons. I also enjoy portraying our animal companions, whether furry, feathery or scaly. I express my love of nature in both Dreamy Realism (realistic landscapes and seascapes with an impressionist overtone...the imprint of a scene on the mind, with the soft edges of memory) and Contemporary Zen (botanical abstracts in a modern Asian style).

Payment/Shipping Information

The quickest way to get your painting is to pay by credit card through PayPal at the close of the auction. I usually ship USPS Priority Mail, which reaches you in only 2-4 business days. I ship as soon as possible after payment has cleared and email you tracking information.

Technical Information for Original Paintings

The oil paintings have been done using Winsor & Newton's Artisan line of oil paints and mediums. The acrylic paintings have been done using professional grade Liquitex Heavy Body (High Viscosity). Each is an original work of art, starting with a blank surface.

There is not a lot to do to care for your painting. Do not use cleaner or solvents (you can dust it). The safest place for your painting is on the wall. We recommend that you hang it out of direct sunlight and avoid areas where the painting will be exposed to high moisture or heat.

I often sell pieces that are unframed but ready to hang. What this means is that the painting was done on a "gallery wrap" canvas. The sides wrap around the piece (there are no staples on the edges). The sides are either painted or finished off with a coordinating acrylic paint. You can frame the piece later, if you wish.

If you decide to frame or reframe your piece, please note that original oil paintings should never be framed under glass (prints and acrylics can). The paint needs to breathe.

Larger pieces generally include a hanger (if the piece includes a hanger, it is noted in the listing). The hanger is usually a sawtooth hanger, picture wire or canvas hanger. Canvas hangers are removable, adjustable hangers that slide in between the canvas and the stretcher bar.

Canvas hangers provide a lot of flexibility.
If the hanger becomes dislodged, just slide it back in.

Smaller pieces (11" x 14" and under) usually do not include hangers as they are small enough to be hung without them.

I also sell pieces that include a frame or are unframed (but need a frame). Each listing clearly describes the individual piece.

Technical Information for Giclee Prints

A giclee (ghee-clay) is a fine art print that is the highest quality print available today. Giclee is a French word which loosely translates to "spray of ink". Merging art and science, the process produces exceptional museum-quality prints. The inks used in this process are specifically developed for the reproduction of fine art and closely capture the original painting.
Most of the prints I sell are open edition (meaning there is no set limit to the number that will be printed and the print is unsigned).

The easiest way to frame your piece is under glass with a mat. The frame size is generally one size up from the print size to allow for the mat. For example, an 8" x 10" print would take an 11" x 14" frame with a 2" mat. You may have the piece professionally framed or purchase a ready-made mat and frame from a variety of sources, including art supply stores, craft stores, department or drug stores. If you frame the piece without a mat, you will need to fold the edges of the canvas around the backing, but that is fine too.

If you purchased this piece on unstretched canvas, you can also put the piece on stretcher bars and frame in an open frame (not under glass). This can be done at a professional framer's (although you can purchase stretcher bars and do it yourself).

After framing, the print should be protected from water and dust and should not be placed in direct sunlight. With proper care and under typical home or office lighting, the print is estimated to last at least 150 - 200 years without noticeable fade.

Returns

If you are not completely happy with a piece, you will be given a refund (less S/H costs), provided the piece is in its original condition. The refund is issued after the piece is returned. The shipping cost will also be deducted from the return. Although the listing may offer free shipping, if it is returned, the amount I paid for shipping it will be deducted. No returns are offered for prints as they are printed to order.

The piece should be returned via Priority Mail, Insured, in the original packaging if possible. If the piece is returned damaged, no refund will be issued. If you sent the piece insured, you may collect a refund from the post office (or other shipping agency).

All my pieces are shipped insured. If lost or delivered in damaged condition, you will need to file a claim with the post office. I cannot do that because the proof is with you that the piece is damaged or lost. If you fill out the form and have the refund issued to me, I will refund your payment on receipt of the claim form. Or, you can fill out the form to have the refund going to you. In that case, I do not issue a refund and you will need to wait and collect it from the post office.

Ownership Rights

Buying a piece does not relinquish copyright. All artists retain copyrights to the image of their work. Once you buy a piece, you are welcome to use a digital image of it within reason, such as on your website or to resell it (although I ask that you not resell the piece on any venue where I am selling directly).

We reserve the right to use the image of the painting, including selling reproductions, inclusion on websites and other promotional materials, and to paint similar subjects.
