Many of the boards have not been used for a couple of years. I feel that it makes the place look unlived in. Perhaps remove those which are never used?

That sounds like a good idea, should free up a bit of space.
Apathy on the forums is so great that this has only one reply...

Personally, not sure removing boards is the way to go. Right after a board is deleted someone will come along and request it.
Trimming out some of the plug threads on the the other hand ... i.e. plugs by members that are gone or no longer selling.
I agree with this, also think it would be beneficial to trim the site up dates thread, which if I remember correctly dates back to the start of the site. From the start of each year would be plenty for me.
Also it is oriented wrongly for me the newest posts should be the ones that you see first. If I saw that as a newbie I would be thinking that this is a site with a lot of problems.

Only Auction sites used to have Forums. 95% of them are gone. Fixed Price sites such as eBid do not need forums they need buyers.
Its an endless carousel here.
I still think that, for example, the Baby & child board with a post by a long departed (and constantly negative) member makes the place look bad.
I don't agree that it is only auction site which need boards - it is really useful to be able to ask questions here - and one usually gets an answer quite quickly.
