Other offers that have been made were reasonable, and were accepted. In this instance they joined to make the offer, it was rejected and that was all I heard from them. They were simply trying to get what in reality is a £50 item at probably below the cost of manufacture. Not really a problem as it was auto rejected. But even when I have been in countries where haggling is accepted I was always happy to pay a reasonabe price for the product so that there was something in it for all.
There is nothing wrong with haggling or what is technically termed as negotiated selling, if I understand the term correctly. There are actually some industries where negotiation has been the accepted form of doing business for decades here in the US. Automobile sales is one that comes to mind.

In an auction, the seller offers an item for sale to the highest bidder with the price being determined by competitive bid. In a negotiated sale the price is determined by the buyer & seller reaching a mutually agreeable price. In retail sales the seller sets the price and the buyer decides if they are willing to pay the seller's price and buy it or not. I see nothing wrong with any of those methods.
