Seller's Description
Vintage Disposable Silver Evening Dress
Disposable dresses were all the rage in the 1960's as the American "throw-away" society emerged. I found a fascinating article about them at http://www.skooldays.com/categories/fashion/fa1708.htm
These are very difficult to find now, because almost all of them were worn and discarded
This is a fabulous collectible dress from that era
It was made of a material that could be worn and laundered a few times before being thrown away
The dress is a sleeveless sheath style, in a metallic silver finish
It has eight adjustable tie straps, two on each side, on both the front and back
There are no zippers, buttons, snaps or pockets
New, still in the original mailing envelope and wrapped in tissue paper
Made by General Fabrics Corporation in Marion, Ohio
There are no tags on the dress
This is on a slip of paper included with the dress: "This dress is made from Lustre-Weave material. It's a 100% non-woven, silvered polyethylene. Use scissors to cut to desired length. Material will not ravel. All Lustre-Weave material is treated with fire retardant that is not removed by washing. To launder, wash by hand in mild soap and lukewarm water. Rinse in clear warm water. Drips dry quickly. Do not iron as heat will damage material. Do not machine wash or tumble dry."
The size listed on the envelope is 12-14 Medium
It measures about 41 inches around the bust and approximately 42 inches around the hipline
The length is 48 inches from just under the arm to the bottom of the hem
The tie straps are about 12 inches long
There are fold marks (see the photo) from being folded in the shipping envelope for over 50 years. There are instructions on how to iron the dress included in the envelope.
