Seller's Description

B & R DVD Volume 23 - Steam North & East

I quote from the box:

‘This film compliments Volume 21 "Steam South and West" and covers steam traction from the Midlands to Scotland between 1963 and 1968. Twenty-three classes of locomotives are portrayed, dominated by Eastern Region types.

We first follow B12 4-6-0 61572 on the "Wandering 1500" tour in 1963 from London's Broad Street terminus through the Midlands to Stratford-upon-Avon.

Moving north we visit Tebay before viewing steam traction on the Settle and Carlisle line in 1967, both sides of Ais Gill summit.

Next we travel the line from Manchester on-board the "Aberdonian" railtour over the S & C and then the long closed Waverley Route to Edinburgh. Scenes of the lines in Fife behind two venerable J37 0-6-Os and the unique V2 60813 lead us into sights of A4s on the Aberdeen 3-hour expresses with scenes at Perth and Ferryhill.

1963 saw the demise of steam at Kings Cross. A1, A2, A3 and A4 are seen at Wood Green before a visit to Doncaster Works behind Stanier Pacific 46245 "City of London" allows us to view even 60014 "Silver Link" before it was scrapped there. A4 Pacific 60007 takes us to Doncaster and York shed followed by viewing this locomotive as 4498 in 1967 when it returned to the East Coast Main Line at Peterborough. Even 7029 "Clun Castle" is seen on its forays over ER metals in 1967.

Finally our last views of the East Coast Main Line must be with 4472 "Flying Scotsman", Her last run as 60103 in 1963 from Kings Cross precludes her return over the East Coast and Midland lines (including Shap Summit) bringing us to 1969 when she departed for America.’

Running time is approx 60 minutes.
