postcard Sailing Merchant Ship Beatrice 1928

Built in 1881 in Scotland, originally named Routenburn, Her name changed to Svithiod before she bacame Beatrice. Used for Cadet training as well as for carrying grain. On 19 January 1928 she left Port Lincoln in Australia with a full load of grain and pitched her speed against the Herzogin Cecile as they raced for Cornwall. Here she is seen at the end of the race being towed into Falmouth
