Thread: Ideas to make the most of your listings (from an idea from BLOXBOOKS)

Hi all, some great tips and advice here.

I also put the link to my eBid store on my auction pages so people can look at my other items. I know the option to view a store is in the 'meet the seller' box but another link can't hurt! And not everyone may look at the seller box if they are just having a quick look.

The advice here is fantastic thanks for that. Just wanted to add to the large fonts and capital letter comment. It is a fact that it is easier to read lower case lettering - try a simple experiment - place a piece of paper over the bottom half of some text and try to read it- see what a difference it makes lower case versus uppercase. When we read we actually scan the shape focussing on the top half of a word - In addition some colours and backgrounds make it more difficult for people with dyslexia to read. The main point being people give up and dont continue to read..Phew theres a bit of info from me past I used to teach many moons ago and specialised in literacy .

I bought one of these light studio box thingamajigs but I am still experimenting with it as my pics show However, even my initial attempts are way better than prior to having it. I did once find a great link for advice on using these but I can't find it . I think the key is having the right lighting to go with it - I currently use a couple of cheap desk lamps but feel I need stronger bulbs. Ive also bought a small tripod off ebid but not had chance to try it out yet.
    Any tips and tricks appreciated

I take most of my pictures in natural light, with the camera I use a snapshop images is never too big to upload and I only need to crop.
Branding your shop is important, using a logo helps, if people remember your name that is a great start because search engines pick eBid items up, I have seen my shop name + BOOKS show up well in google searches, keywords in title and listing descriptions are a must.
A little time and effort will be worth it, I know that many items on eBid are more competitive in price and postage than other place that sellers have to increase postage cost to absord high listing fees, this is our advantage and I know that we do not have every thing people are looking for but eBid is growing, right now uk.ebid.net 356,845 listings.
If you have any positive ideas about making the most of your listings add them here.

Taking quite few photographs of everything myself . I just like to add, people should take time to use programs like photoshop, just to "tweak" their picture. By this i mean, have a go at:
    - Sharpening your image
    - Playing around with the hue & saturation to allow the item's natural colour to shine through
    - Crop the picture, cutting away any distractions

I try to do this on all my items, wonders can be had with these prgrams.

    Hi there

I have noticed that the size (file size) of the photos uploaded has changed recently. I used to used PhotoShop to shrink the size of my photos to as close to 500 kb as possible so as to get the best quality possible - but recently I have found that I don't need to do this anymore as it seems to be 'shrunk' automatically by eBid when uploading, although I don't think the qulaity is as good as I used to get! Hmmmm.

    Anyone else notice this?

I normally resize my own, that way I have more control.
I usually save my photos as png while I'm adjusting them, only when I'm happy do I save as jpg's or gifs.

This new 614 pixel width is probably going to catch a few out, I know I've got to change the font choice images, in my label listings, & rehash some of the auction templates because although they're % tables they will look really silly at that size.

    Hiya Emma

I made my own studio box and at NO COST. Here is a photo! As you can see I have used a transparent trolley draw and two sheets of black card. - You use any colour, this is just my own choice.

I pop in my item and make sure the lounge lights are turned right up. I set up my little tripod and zoom in!

If you do not have a draw, why not use one of those white pop-up washing baskets??

Oh Mel that looks cool - my box cost me £20
    I have another tip:
Make sure your store description impacts in the 1st few words- go to the front page to see why it's important - when shops are featured the first few words are on the front page and some start off with the nice wlecomes etc but dont give the viewer immediate knowledge of what you are selling

Nice one thanks - Just read yours so I know what you mean.

£20.00 for your box was good, they were 4 x times that about a year ago!
